Alt-J are back this year with their third album entitled 'Relaxer', with 'Deadcrush' being the latest single and comes accompanied with a dark video featuring interpretive dance. Directed by Young Replicant with choreography from Darcy Wallace, it sees a group of three dancers performing in what looks like some kind of industrial complex.
Apparently, the main crux of the video is based on three historical figures they would date - Anne Boleyn, Sylvia Plath and Lee Miller - all of whom appear in the video.
The video setting is only appropriate for the kind of song it is. 'Deadcrush' has an almost industrial rock flavour with a hint of 80s pop melody. It features guest vocals from Ellie Rowsell of Wolf Alice, who also appears on the single '3WW'.
The new album was released on June 2nd 2017 through Atlantic Records and was produced by the Brit Award winning Charlie Andrew (Madnes, Nick Mulvey, Rae Morris) who was involved with the first two albums: 'An Awesome Wave' and 'This Is All Yours'. Some of the tracks were written way back when they first formed at the University of Leeds, and some include guest musicians the likes of the London Metropolitan Orchestra and Marika Hackman.
Alt-J have several live dates coming up such as Montreux Jazz Festival, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Sziget, Lowlands Festival and Bestival in Bali.
The novel's author saw a cut of the film and loved each of the changes the movie's director had made.
