All-American Rejects frontman Tyson Ritter almost lost his leg last month (Sep09) after a knee infection spread to his bloodstream.
The rocker performed in a wheelchair, wearing a leg brace in Florida during the band's tour with Blink-182, but details of the injury remained a mystery.
Now he has revealed damaging his knee nearly had horrific consequences - he was just 12 hours from having his right leg amputated.
He tells Kerrang! magazine, "I got an infection from doing a knee-slide. One minute I'm fine, the next it's, 'Hey, f**k you. Love, your leg'. I played in West Palm in a leg brace but after that show, doctors wouldn't let me leave without going to hospital. They told me if I'd waited 12 hours, they'd have had to take off my leg!
"They put me on medical grade heroin for five days. It was f**king nasty s**t. I went crazy and was having all these fights with people who weren't even there. The nurses almost had me committed. I should probably be in a padded room right now but I don't remember a thing because I was checking out of reality really hard."
