Alison Krauss - Paper Airplane - Comments and Message Board

the lyric from "lay my body down" is: "so with the EARTH I'll lay entwined" NOT youth. that's a gross mistake.

Not with this album. Krauss has other lions to kill with this one. The edgy one for me is So Long So Wrong, but the thing is Alison has had to kill lions throughout her career. Re-signing with Rounder was an incredible test for her in the mid-90s, as was recording with Plant -- what a disaster that could have been! The same with returning to Union Station rather than resuming with Plant on his Band of Joy album and subsequent tour, which seemed from my perspective to be what the media wanted to see her do. The album of the year Grammy can be the kiss of death, ask the Dixie Chicks and others, and she has weathered that hurdle quite nicely. The band sounds tight and fresh and the best thing going in Nashville. She selling albums without radio play, and is being pushed to promote herself more extensively in Europe. I think with Paper Airplane she has pulled off another stunner and given the length of her run, it's truly remarkable! Let's see what her tour generates -- as her live video and tour can attest, raw and immediacy and incredible musicianship for her and the band is frequently found on the road!

Shame you feel that way because the true brilliance of Alison Krauss and Union Station only comes to light best after listening several times. In spite of it's seeming so when only listened to once...this is not easy listening. This music only truly reveals itself after one pays close attention. But if you are looking for "raw, dark, edgy and unpolished" and yet as "perfect" as AKUS...may I suggest Shelby Lynne. ;)
