Alicia Silverstone's acclaimed new TV series MISS MATCH has been a flop in America because it aired on a Friday night, according to the actress herself.

The CLUELESS star felt sure the quirky show, in which she played a divorce lawyer-turned-matchmaker, would be a big hit when it debuted last autumn (03) - but the ratings failed to materialise, and now the show has been shelved.

However, Silverstone is convinced it would have fared better had it aired on another night.

She explains, "It's hard when you are on Friday night. My mother is in her 60s, and she's taping the show because she's got busy plans of Friday night."
