Rapper LIL MAMA was so inspired by JAY-Z and Alicia Keys' finale performance at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (13Sep09) she bounded onstage to "celebrate" a job well done.
The diminutive star rushed the stage unexpectedly towards the end of the superstars' rendition of Empire State of Mind - Jay-Z's ode to his native New York and found herself performing next to the shocked rap star, who attempted to shoo her away.
But the defiant star stood her ground and posed with the duo as the song came to a close.
Lil Mama has now apologised for joining the performance, insisting she meant no harm and simply got caught up in the moment.
She tells MTV News, "I did not mean any disrespect towards Jay-Z or Alicia Keys. I admire them and look up to them as role models.
"Empire State of Mind had my emotions running high. In that moment I came up onstage to celebrate my two icons, singing about NY."
Lil Mama wasn't the only stage invader at the VMAs - the event started with Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift's Best Female Video acceptance speech to proclaim the prize belonged to Jay-Z's wife Beyonce.
