The GRAMMY-winning New Yorker will play concert pianist PHILLIPA SCHUYLER in a film about the musician's life, after initially turning down the chance to work with Steven Spielberg on another movie.
Keys explains, "I'm not sure what drew me to the role because I have nothing in common with her.
"I figured, 'Hey, let's go out on a limb and do something different.'"
Both Keys and Schuyler are mixed race, grew up in Manhattan and learned to play piano at a young age.
Schuyler died in 1967, aged 36, while attempting to rescue school children from a Vietnam war zone.05/07/2004 17:19
