Alicia Keys and Rihanna's bids to rally support for cancer-stricken Broadway star SHANNON TAVAREZ have paid off - hundreds of fans have signed up as bone marrow donors to help find a match for the child star.
The 11-year-old actress, who played the young Nala onstage in hit musical The Lion King, was diagnosed with Acute Leukaemia in April (10) and is in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant to survive.
Her emotional cancer fight struck a chord with the two R&B stars, who called on their supporters to register as potential donors so Tavarez and others like her can have a chance at overcoming the disease.
And their public appeals appear to have worked - around 385 people attended a bone marrow drive in New York on Sunday (18Jul10) to register as donors and offer their support to young Tavarez.
