School's Out rocker Alice Cooper is planning an album of covers so he can pay tribute to his heroes.

Cooper reveals he came up with the idea while saluting his former drinking buddies like Keith Moon, Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix onstage as part of a live segment.

He tells, "I just kind of said, 'We've never done a covers album, let's think about that.'

"I would keep it right to about '73, '74. I don't want to just go anywhere. I want to keep it right in that sort of drunk era, so it's specific. I would say Break On Through (by The Doors), that's a really good rock track there. The other ones... Harry Nilsson, there's a lot of good stuff there that could be rocked out."

Cooper hopes to record the album this year and release it in 2014.
