Axed ER star Alex Kingston has accused the British press of misinterpreting
her sarcastic suggestion she was cut from the medical drama because she's too
The British actress maintains the hit American series is focusing on
landing younger talent, but insists the show still depends on older stars to
play authoritative figures.
Her backtracking comments come just days after she moaned to a London
magazine that producers and writers refused to renew her contract because she
was "part of the old fogeys who are no longer interesting" - but she is adamant
her words were
taken out of context.
She says, "Statements from an interview I recently gave were spoken tongue
in cheek and unfortunately have been taken out of context.
"I regret if these statements have affected the producer, as we are in
mutual agreement that the story line for my character had run its course."
Kingston adds she's proud of her eight years on ER playing DOCTOR
ELIZABETH CORDAY and grateful for the acting experience.
