Blur star Alex James has helped a homeless man in Britain turn his life around after taking him in for a new U.K. TV show.
The rocker invited Danny Newton to stay at his farm in Oxfordshire, England as part the Itv network's Home Is Where The Heart Is.
Newton carried out jobs on James' rural property before using his skills to land a job as a chef - and James is proud he stepped in to help.
He tells Britain's The Sun, "For years I had lived next door to a hostel for homeless people in London. Sometimes I gave them 20 quid (pounds) but I never quite felt I was doing the right thing.
"When Dan arrived he was overwhelmed by his problems and didn't know what he wanted to do. But he seemed prepared to try.
"I became a sergeant major, drilling Dan and making sure he took exercise and improved his diet. In a very short time, a huge change came over him. It was obvious he was interested in food. At any opportunity, he'd cook for people. So I got him a shift at a local restaurant. I shudder to think what might have happened if not for the TV series but he's doing brilliantly."
Newton adds, "He (James) made me feel welcome. He spotted I was happiest when cooking. I'd not thought of working with food as I didn't want to turn something I enjoyed into a chore. Now I wouldn't do anything else."
The series debuts in Britain on Tuesday (10May11).
