Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back Trailer

The Rebel Alliance struck a terrific blow to the Galactic Empire with the destruction of the Death Star. But now, with the Emperor's right hand man, Darth Vader, on the hunt for Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), the Alliance are going to have more difficulty fighting them off. Han Solo (Harrison Ford) is reluctantly still fighting alongside the Alliance, although his smuggling past and loner demeanour still rub wrongly with Leia Organa (Carry Fisher), who finds him to be nothing more than a stuck up, scruffy-looking Nerf herder. But their petty squabbling will have to be put aside when the Empire comes in search of Luke.

Long Lost 'Star Wars' Blooper Reels Found At Last [Video]

Star Wars Harrison Ford Alec Guinness

With all this talk about the upcoming reboot of the Star Wars franchise, picking up where the original trilogy left off, it's hard to imagine that those sacred three films could ever have anything new to offer us. It turns out that there actually is something new to take from those beautiful films that graced the late 1970's and early to mid 80's, and we're not talking about yet another 'Special Edition' DVD release.

Star Wars
These guys really have seen some things

After decades of gathering dust, Lucasfilm editor J.W. Rinzler has found a treasure trove of blooper clips that, up until now, were presumed to be lost forever. Rinzler found the clips whilst scanning the Lucasfilm archives for the encyclopaedic making-of books for 'Episodes IV-V' when he stumbled across the two anda half minutes of comedy gold.

Pink Panther Star Herbert Lom Dies, Aged 95

Herbert Lom Kirk Douglas Charlton Heston Alec Guinness Peter Sellers Blake Edwards

Herbert Lom, the actor best known for playing Charles Dreyfus in the Pink Panther movies, has died aged 95. He may have starred alongside Hollywood greats Kirk Douglas, Charlton Heston and Alec Guinness, he may have portrayed historical figures such as Napoleon Bonaparte, but it will be his performance alongside the hapless Inspector Clouseau (played by Peter Sellers) for which he will be most fondly remembered.

The family of the Czech-born star confirmed that he died peacefully in his sleep, Sky News report today (September 27, 2012) and his son Alec Lom has spoken of his long and varied career. “Like many actors, he never wanted to be pigeon-holed in a particular role,” his son revealed. “After having played the role of East European gangster in many films, it was a delight to him later in his career to be cast by Pink Panther producer and director Blake Edwards in a comedy role opposite Peter Sellers, and he hugely enjoyed that move.”

Alec also spoke fondly of his father’s working relationship with Sellers, saying “he had many funny stories about the antics that he and Peter Sellers got up to on the set. It was a nightmare working with Peter because he was a terrible giggler and, between my father and Peter's laughter, they ruined dozens and dozens of takes.”

Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back Review

Essential
Twenty years will make you forget how good a movie was.

I was excited to see the rerelease of The Empire Strikes Back, but I had forgotten about how masterful the film is realized, and I had especially forgotten what it looked like on the big screen.

Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope Review

Extraordinary
When the first Star Wars films came along, they filled a collective need. Movies had gotten too serious -- too much realism, not enough escapism. It was a time when audiences wanted to escape from the headlines -- as we still do -- and return to moral, and cinematic, simplicity. George Lucas delivered the goods.

Watching the first two installments in the series again (Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back, also the two best films in the series), the most noticeable thing about them is all the ideas that went into them. Lightsaber duels, the Force, model spaceships, Darth Vader's heavy breathing, droids that deliver annoying repartee, aliens that look like Sasquatch and giant frogs, and wisecracking antiheroes like Harrison Ford's Han Solo -- all these things have entered our cultural consciousness. But the makers of the original Star Wars had to think up all these things (or borrow them from non-sci-fi genres).

Our Man In Havana Review

Very Good
Incredibly droll, this Graham Greene-scripted black comedy offers a can't miss premise: In pre-Castro Cuba (though shot shortly after the revolution), Alec Guinness sells vacuum cleaners to support a daughter with expensive tastes. He's soon made an offer he can't refuse: Become a spy for the British government to earn more cash. When he doesn't encounter much in the way of secrets, he makes them up. Soon, one of his made-up contacts somehow turns out to be a real person, with disastrous results. Crammed full of subtle sight gags and bone-dry one-liners, it's an underseen treat.
