The Felice Brothers Felice Brothers Album

If you are expecting something new from The Felice Brothers, then think again. What you get here is Dylan doing Americana. If that does nothing for you, then you may as well skip on to the next review. However, we all know that hundreds of bands fit the Americana description, but not all of them do it justice.

Felice Brothers could well be the ones to reignite that spark. Like Calexico, they are laid-back. They make you want lay back in a chair, revelling in the timeless nature of their craft. They make the sound of the desert seem natural, rather than forced and they are masterfully understated, all down to the sound of the singer's voice.

The beauty of this album is that it sounds as though it could have been recorded at any point in the last 40 years (much like 'Crimes' by These United States). This is a massive departure from their debut album and a huge development in their sound. They seem comfortable in their own skin and the band's maturity is evident. If the idea of a rustic Country Springsteen appeals to you, then this is the album for you.

4.5/5
