Rachael Yamagata Elephants: Teeth Sinking Into Heart Album

Sometimes chart friendly pop doesn't really provide the edge you're looking for in music. There's no denying the amount of female singer songwriters about at the moment is ridiculous, and a lot of people have has enough.

On that bright note, may I introduce Rachaael Yamagata, if recent chart success stories haven't really given you what you desire, this might just be the lady you're looking for. Yamagata's new album Elephants: Teeth Sinking Into Heart is a wonderful progression from her earlier works, she can genuinely be seen as a force to be reckoned with, moving on from her days as a female Ray Lamontagne, she now offers a more complete album (sexy rock vibe included).

This double disc has two souls, the first, a light and sensitive feel (Elephants is a song you could easily fall in love with) and the second disc introduces us to this whole new - totally unexpected - Yamagata. Emotion really flows through, at times she even sounds angry. This album is warm, emotive, beautiful and sensual, leagues ahead of many of her fellow songstresses.

Rating 9/10
