Veteran playwright SIR Alan Ayckbourn has been hospitalised in Scarborough, England, after suffering a stroke.

The Norman Conquest writer, 66, is currently recovering, but fears the right-side of his body has been struck by partial-paralysis.

However, the gracious writer is full of praise for the hospital staff caring for him.

He says, "I hope to be back on my feet, or at least my left leg, as soon as possible.

"I know it's going to take some time. In the meantime, I am in excellent hands."
