Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar was arrested Monday (18May09) by police investigating allegations of obscenity following his appearance at a recent fashion show.
The star took to the catwalk at a show in Mumbai, India in March (09) to promote Levi's Unbuttoned range of jeans.
But Kumar, 41, sparked outrage in the conservative country by halting his march down the runway and asking his wife, Twinkle Khanna, who was sitting in the front row, to undo his denims.
Police launched an investigation into the matter after an official complaint was lodged with the city's authorities.
And now Kumar has been arrested on suspicion of obscene behaviour after handing himself over to cops on Monday.
Assistant commissioner of Mumbai police, Arvind Mahdadi, says, "I can confirm that Akshay Kumar came to Vakola police station (in Mumbai) at 8.30am with his lawyer and surrendered himself. He was arrested under section 294 of Indian Penal Code and was given bail."
Kumar apologised following the incident, telling his fans, "If I have hurt anyone's sentiments with my actions, I'm sorry because I didn't mean to."
