Top Gun 3D Trailer

Maverick is a reckless but extremely skilled fighter pilot whose father died after his plane was shot down in the Vietnam War. Because of his talent, he is asked to attend the Top Gun school with co-pilot Goose. It is there he competes to be the top student on the program while simultaneously attempting to woo his chief instructor Charlie Blackwood who, although appearing critical at first, secretly admires his flying methods. His journey to become the greatest pilot in the world is tarnished with tragedy and the frustration that rumours of his father dying due to his own errors could be true.

Heroes: Season Two Review

Good
For many, the second season of this runaway NBC hit was hampered by many things: expectations from the first classic story arc, a writer's strike that seemed to sap all the life out of the media momentum, a familiarity with the characters and the concept, all of which made a sophomore slump all the more likely. Cut down to 11 episodes, and without the planned Origins prequel series to back up its premise, many believed that their favorite superhero show was faltering before it could completely catch on. Such assessments were definitely premature.

When last we left the everyday avengers and their evil antagonists, New York City was saved from a cataclysmic event. Four months later, the authoritarian Company continues its investigation and control over the superhumans, focusing specifically on a new disease that could wipe out their special abilities -- as well as a large percentage of the population. In the meantime, Hiro (Masi Oka) is transported back to feudal Japan, where he discovers something very interesting about the legendary Takezo Kensei (David Anders). Elsewhere, fugitives Maya (Dania Ramirez) and Alejandro Herrera (Shalim Ortiz) make their way from Honduras to the United States. Along the way, they meet up with a now-powerless Sylar (Zachary Quinto). Finally, amnesiac Peter (Milo Ventimiglia) remembers who he is, while the cheerleader Claire (Hayden Panettiere) moves to California with her family and tries to have a normal life.

Heroes: Season One Review

Excellent
I came to the Heroes ball late. I watched a bit of the first episode on original release, got distracted, and gave up. Not until the first full season was released on DVD did I catch up on what I'd missed: An excellent supernatural drama filled with interesting, unique characters, exciting stories, and fun plot twists.

Basically, Heroes is a comic book come to life, telling us of average people who suddenly find they have special, superhuman powers. A cheerleader, Claire (Hayden Panettiere), discovers she can heal any injury (it's a good thing, too, she'd be dead about 20 times over if she couldn't). A congressional candidate (Adrian Pasdar) can fly. A cop (Greg Grunberg) can read minds. And so on. The story that evolves over the 23 episodes of season one ultimately concern a serial killer, Sylar (Zachary Quinto), who is preying on superheroes and sucking out their powers for himself, and a nuclear bomb that is foretold by one hero to decimate New York City. Somehow the heroes are involved... but they might be able to stop it.

Near Dark Review

Good
An otherwise relatively straight-up vampire movie is played for cheese value, with Lance Henriksen the leader of a gang of Arizona bloodsuckers (including Bill Paxton in an unlikely role). Adrian Pasdar is pretty bland as the-guy-who-gets-bit, but there's enough comedy value from watching these stars play bad guys early in their careers that it's definitely worth a rent.

The Last Good Time Review

Grim
Er, I'm guessing the last good time is when old fogie Armin Mueller-Stahl gets to bonk hottie Olivia d'Abo. The rest of the movie (when d'Abo is wearing clothes, that is) is unmemorable -- some wandering tale about Armin's tax problems and Olivia's abusive boyfriend. Two ships passing in the night and all that. Written, produced, and directed by character actor Bob Balaban.

Wounded Review

Terrible
Why do you make a movie and cut M├Ądchen Amick's gorgeous hair? Asinine story about a renegade bear poacher (?!) and the girl who hunts him down. Uh huh.
