Opening with mega-hit ‘Hello’, Adele was frank with the Belfast crowd about her pre-show nerves. “This is my first time in an arena ever. I have actually been sh***ing myself all day, literally. I’ve had severe bowel movements,” the 27-year-old said.

“When I came up that f***ing stage in the dark, oh my God, I thought I was going to die. I woke up this morning sounding like Arnold Schwarzenegger. My voice was so deep because I slept with the air con on. And then I had bowel movements because of tonight.”

“Then Gatwick closed and I thought my boyfriend wasn’t going to get here on time,” she added. “I’ve had an Imodium so it’s going to be alright.”

Adele’s set featured classics ‘Hometown Glory’, ‘Make Me Feel Your Love’, ‘Someone Like You’ and ‘Chasing Pavements’ as well as tracks from 25 including ‘When We Were Young’ and ‘Send My Love (To Your New Lover)’.

A special moment for two lucky fans came when Adele invited a couple up on stage to partake in the leap year tradition of a woman proposing to her boyfriend (he said yes).

During ‘When We Were Young’ the notoriously private singer shared unseen photos from her childhood, telling the audience “Right now I’m going to let you into my past, I’m going to let you into my life.”
