Absolutely Fabulous creator and star Jennifer Saunders has confirmed the cult British comedy is heading for the French Riviera - and the big screen.
The TV series, featuring cancer survivor Saunders and Joanna Lumley as bawdy socialites Edina Monsoon and Patsy Stone, debuted on the Bbc in 1992 and originally ran for three seasons. It was revived for two more seasons, which ran from 2001 to 2003, and returned to U.K. TV screens on Christmas Day (25Dec11) for the first of three specials.
And Saunders has now confirmed reports she's working on a movie version of Absolutely Fabulous.
She tells New York Magazine, "Yes, I'm definitely going to do it. I'm aiming to shoot this in a beautiful part of the Riviera. I fancy the south of France in the spring."
But she admits she wouldn't have even considered a return as Edina this Christmas if it wasn't for co-star Joanna Lumley's big mouth.
Saunders reveals she was undecided about bringing back the programme until Lumley made it official in an interview last summer (10).
Saunders says, "It was mainly because she (Lumley) announced it that we did it. She said, 'Darling, I told them in New York that you're going to do a few more.'"
