AT&T on Monday expanded its U-verse package (TV, telephone, and Internet) to allow subscribers to download TV episodes onto Blackberry Torch and Apple iPhone mobile devices via wi-fi without additional cost. Some 52 TV shows will initially be available through licensing deals with Disney/ABC, Discovery, and PBS. The AT&T application will also allow subscribers to view a TV program guide online and set their DVRs accordingly. In a statement, David Christopher, chief marketing officer for AT&T's mobility and consumer markets unit, boasted, "No cable provider comes close to matching the cross-platform experience we're delivering today, and we'll continue to add unique features that further integrate these screens." AT& T currently has about 2.5 million U-verse subscribers. AT&T is currently the sole U.S. provider of mobile phone services for Apple's iPhone; it will begin distributing the Blackberry Torch on Thursday.
