The film will centre on Molly Bloom, a professional skier who later hosted illegal invite-only poker games in Los Angeles, attended by celebrities including Ben Affleck, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Tobey Maguire. She was arrested by the FBI and sentenced to a year of probation and ordered to forfeit $125,000 (£78,125) in 2014.

Sorkin had originally planned to develop a film titled The Politician, about former U.S. Senator John Edwards' affair scandal, for his directorial debut, but the project has stalled, according to TheWrap.com.

The 54-year-old picked up an Oscar for the screenplay of The Social Network and has been nominated for a Golden Globe for Steve Jobs.
