Freelancers may have boasted a high-wattage cast that included 50 Cent, Robert De Niro, Forest Whitaker and Dana Delaney, and it may also have ranked seventh on TorrentFreak's latest list of the top 10 most downloaded movies. But those who have pirated the Lionsgate movie may be about the only ones who have actually seen it. The film had been scheduled to open last weekend in limited release in advance of a home-video release tomorrow (Tuesday). But the film hasn't turned up on any box office report -- either last week or this week. One box office website, TheNumbers.com, says that it has earned "$0" and commented "There's little hope this film will thrive." The movie has received but a single review from a major-market critic -- from Lou Lumenick of the New York Post . Last week, Lumenick bestowed half a star on the film, writing that De Niro "parodies his long-ago days as a great actor in this hokey NYPD melodrama."
