LATEST: Rapper 50 Cent has played down his recent vow to sell more records than rival Kanye West or quit his rap career, insisting the two stars will never be "equals".
Both 50 Cent and West are releasing their new albums, Curtis and Graduation respectively, on 11 September (07).
Last week (10Aug07), the G-Unit star told MTV: "Let's raise the stakes. If Kanye West sells more records than 50 Cent on September 11, I'll no longer (perform) music. I'll write music and work with my other artists, but I won't put out any more solo albums."
But 50 - real name Curtis Jackson - has made a dramatic U-turn and reneged on his deal, claiming the two should not be compared because West is a "worker bee" while he is a "boss".
Jackson tells MTV.com, "Look at how you're talking to me, like Kanye West is my equal right now. That's like me putting myself against Michael Jackson's (album release) date and then acting like, 'Woah, it's a battle between 50 Cent and Michael Jackson!', when Thriller sold 30 million records and 50 Cent's biggest album sold 12 (million), you feel what I'm saying?
"Don't get lost in the hype. I got the right records, so we're gonna sit here and I'll see you next time. Maybe next time they can send me off to the pastures. But right now, I'm gonna stick around and sell this record - and I will be number one on September 11."
