A Week In Music, Manic Street Preachers Get Nostalgic, DJ Muggs Returns Solo And Thom Yorke Throws A Spotify Strop

Manic Street Preachers

A week in music videos... Manic Street Preachers teamed up with Richard Hawley for the nostalgic title track from their upcoming new album 'Rewind The Film'. It has that classic Preachers mix of anthemic melodies and melancholic undertones that have kept them high in the UK album charts since their debut in 1992. Looking at their latest track, this new offering is going to be just as impossible to categorise musically as usual - but we like it that way! Watch the video for 'Rewind The Film' here.

If a perfect summer 2013 song exists, it's Dan Croll's 'In/Out'. It doesn't feature on his debut EP 'From Nowhere' which we're hoping means there's going to be some talk of a debut album soon. We defy you not to move to this calypso inspired dance track, the video for which features karaoke style lyrics - if you don't find this infectiously upbeat tune catchy enough. Watch the video for In/Out here.

IHeartRadio Festival To Welcome Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars And Err, Queen

Justin Timberlake Bruno Mars Katy Perry Elton John Keith Urban Queen Brian May Adam Lambert Ryan Seacrest Muse Tiesto Chris Brown Fun Phoenix Maroon 5 Tim Mcgraw 30 Seconds to Mars Benny Benassi No Doubt Pink Usher Swedish House Mafia Billie Joe Armstrong Green Day Miley Cyrus Avril Lavigne Pete Tong Twenty One Pilots

Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars and Katy Perry are among the names confirmed for the iHeartRadio Music Festival at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas in September. The two-day festival, set to be held on September 20 and 21, will also feature performances from Elton John, Keith Urban and a special pairing of Queen (with Brian May) and the former American Idol star Adam Lambert.

The main festival line-up was announced on Monday morning (July 15, 2013) in a press conference hosted by Ryan Seacrest. A final schedule will be announced closer to the festival, though Timberlake, Perry, Elton and Bruno Mars are likely to be the marquee names. The likes of Muse, Tiesto, Chris Brown, Fun, Phoenix, Maroon 5, Tim Mcgraw, Ke&ha, Thirty Seconds to Mars and Benny Benassi are other high profile names to have been confirmed.

Last year's festivals played host to No Doubt, Pink, Usher and Swedish House Mafia though it will be remembered for Billie Joe Armstrong's meltdown during Green Day's set. After smashing the band's instruments in protest of his set being cut short, Armstrong left the stage and was admitted to rehab the next day, cancelling his band's tour dates and promotional appearances.

From Miley Cyrus To Muse - There's Something For Everyone In IHeartRadio Festival's Lineup

Miley Cyrus J. Cole Muse Maroon 5 30 Seconds to Mars Justin Timberlake Chris Brown Keith Urban

Prepare for strangeness, as the iHeart Radio music festival is once again upon us and it comes with an eclectic lineup once again this year. Said lineup has now been announced, and while there won’t be another meltdown from Green Day frontman Billy Joe Armstrong, since the band won’t be performing this year, there are still plenty of names on their for fans of various genres to get excited about.

Justin Timberlake, Wireless Festival
Productive as ever, Justin Timberlake will make an appearance.

For anyone who’s following current musical trends, Justin Timberlake and Ke$ha both feature in the lineup, as do J Cole, Bruno Mars, Maroon 5, AWOLNATION and even 30 Seconds to Mars – pretty much everyone, who has an album to promote, it would seem. The festivities will once again be based in Las Vegas, taking place over Sept 20 and 21. There are some changes to the festival structure as well, with the addition of the iHeart village, featuring such talent as Miley Cyrus and Avril Lavigne. The village is actually a brand new festival stage – according to the official website “ On Saturday, September 21, from 10a - 4p, the iHeartRadio Music Festival Village takes over a brand-new outdoor venue, The Lot, right on the Strip. ” The full lineup (for both the main stage and the village) is listed below, curtesy of the official iHeart website.

A Week In Videos... She might have just wrapped up her Set The World On Fire tour, but the promotional drive for Alicia Keys fifth album Girl On Fire rolls on, with the multi-million selling songstress putting out a video for the third single from the 2012 Billboard number one LP. The video for 'New Day' sees clips of studio-shot footage of Keys dancing down back alleys, interspersed with footage of the star performing live in various instances. Given that her last single Brand New Me reached a meagre 103 at the tale of end of 2012 in America, it's going to be hard for 'New Day' to make much of an impact.

Kurt Vile's Wakin On A Pretty Daze was his most commercially successful album yet, going close to the top 40 in the UK and making 47 on the US Billboards. Yet the American psych-wizard is about more than sales figures, and pleasingly his fifth album also perhaps marks his most accomplished to-date, a record of dreamy soundscapes and hazy Americana tale-telling. Given the woozy nature of 'Never Run Away,' we wonder just exactly what that smoke coming out of the bus at the beginning of the video is...

A Week In Music - Yeah Yeah Yeahs Progress From Punky Roots With Mosquito, 30 Seconds To Mars' 'Up In The Air' Comes With A Warning And Daft Punk Break Records With 'Get Lucky'

Albums of Note... Yeah Yeah Yeahs have returned after a lengthy break, with Mosquito. It’s a marked step in the band’s evolution and a further step away from their punky roots. Mosquito has opened up further avenues of creative possibilities for a band that once seemed shackled by their arty roots and somewhat more importantly, Karen O now has blonde hair, now folks. That’s the big news here.

The possibilities for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs now seem endless. The inclusion of Kool Keith's alter ego Dr Octagon on 'Buried Alive' is one such example. Although slightly scattergun in its approach, Mosquito almost feels like a record the band needed to make to reach the next stage of their evolution.

Houston, We Have A Single: Thirty Seconds To Mars Debut 'Up In The Air' From Space

30 Seconds to Mars Jared Leto

The Mayor of the City Of Houston, Annise Parker must be a fan of rock music, too, because the day was also marked today Thirty Seconds of Mars Day, Jared told the KROQ hosts “We thought it’s a great beginning to a long conversation that we’re going to be having with this album,” talking about their forthcoming single Up In The Air, which precedes the band’s next long-player. “This album is a completely new direction. It’s more than even an evolution, it’s a brand new beginning. It also feels like it could have been something off our first album in a way.”

The new album will be entitled Love Lust Faith + Dreams and features artwork by Damien Hirst, from his Spot Painting series.

Tonight there was no stopping the alliance that is '30 Seconds to Mars.' With 2 sold out nights at the Hammersmith Apollo from a band that burst onto the scene in 2002, it is safe to say that until their Radio 1 live lounge cover of 'Stronger' and recent chart entry with 'From Yesterday' the band were relatively unknown over here...
